GENERAL MEETING on May 21, 2025.  From 9:30 am until 12:00 pm.

Bob Fincham, of Coenosium Gardens will be speaking about his favorite dwarf evergreens for the May General meeting. Bob started out as an educator in Pennsylvania and taught science for 20 years. His passion for conifers began in 1974 when he traded a fern fossil for five unique specimens. This started a part time nursery mail order business dedicated to rare and unusual conifer specimens. Over the years Bob founded friendships with several notable conifer growers, including Jean Iseli in Boring Oregon, In 1986, he accepted a job with Iseli which led to a move of over 10,000 plants on 2 semi trailers; This led to developing a full scale nursery for six years. In 1999 he was invited to present a paper at the Fourth International Conifer Convention in England. The only speaker, not connected to the Botanical Society or other academic institutions.

Bob returned to teaching in 1993, yet never lost his love of conifers.  He ran Coenosium Gardens for a total of 36 years. He moved his nursery and collection several times, ending up in Eatonville. After his first wife passed, Bob closed Coenosium gardens in 2015 and opened Coenosium Publishing where he focuses on writing. He has written for several periodicals, American Nurseryman, Fine Gardening, NARGS Quarterly and the American Conifer Society which he co-founded and was president of for 5 years. He has written several books on conifers as well as other subjects. He currently lives in Puyallup with his wife, Thecla and a small collection of conifers and spends his time writing.

Following Bob Fincham’s talk on dwarf conifers, members will have an opportunity to purchase several of these plants. Conifer Kingdom in Oregon has generously agreed to discount these plants to us to create a fundraiser.  After the presentation, members will be able to order specimens to be delivered in early June. Members who miss the meeting will also have an opportunity to complete an online order form to participate in this event.
